Ha ha nice try this has got to have been shopped. The Republican principle of personal responsibility actually means that women are the personal responsibility of men.

I love your posts and all, Roach, but can you please not be so generalizing??? No offense, but it’s hypocritical to just throw a carpet statement over a group of people. I know it might be surprising, but the republican party are not a horde of sexist hate demons from the cavernous belly of Jörmungandr.
Probably.
Anyway, I would much appreciate it if you didn’t say things like that.

Okay I was being pretty snarky there on purpose but hypocritical? Fucking nope. The Republicans are not some randomass group of people who should be exempt from summation, criticism, or my deep ire, they are a political party. With voluntary membership and an agenda that explicitly involves a reduction in women’s health and rights. You don’t judge a political party by what some of the nicer members would like to stick up for, you judge that political party by the legislation they try and enact, and right now the Republican party is damn well synonymous with sexist hate demons. There’s a few guys saying ‘maybe we should let women make their own choices about their own bodies?’ and there’s the official Republican Platform which is that no they shouldn’t. The stuff they are working to do is directly affecting my civil rights and employment opportunities and ability to obtain health care.
If you consider yourself part of the Republican Party, if you are voting Republican, you are directly responsible for enabling these people to keep doing what they’re doing. Supporting guys like Randy Moody, okay, great, awesome, send him a cookie with YOU NOTICED WOMEN ARE PEOPLE GREAT JOB iced on it. But throw in with a party that’s actually working on the whole to improve and increase people’s choices and opportunities, for fuck’s sake, and maybe if enough people do that the Republican party might start fielding more guys like this instead of guys like Mitt ‘No abortions for rape and incest victims’ Romney.
Political rant of the night over, I’m fucking done.

ALSO: REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS ALSO affect non-identifying women and the trans* community.

The latest from Rush Limbaugh, a devout user of the term “feminazi”:

“So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.

As awesome as this is, isn’t it also kinda inadvertently slut-shaming? I mean, if women choose to have sex with older dudes/wear skimpy clothing/have a wide array of sex partners/happen to line up to society’s beauty standards, isn’t that still valid? I’m confident this post is designed to degrade the Bishop’s slut-shaming bullshit with the ALL-MENZ meeting on reproductive rights. Shouldn’t it be that women should be able to do whatever the fuck they want? Still awesome intent though. Just…a little confusing. :C

[TW: eating disorder]

WTF?!?! One of their top artists/actresses had an eating disorder and they still think it is a good idea to joke about that?!?!? Girls as young as 5 are worried about their weight. Joking about eating disorders in NOT okay especially when their target audience [kids to pre-teens] DO struggle with body image and weight issues. FUCK YOU DISNEY.

Eve Ensler: Over It.

katawalsh:

“I am over rape.

I am over rape culture, rape mentality, rape pages on Facebook.

I am over the thousands of people who signed those pages with their real names without shame.

I am over people demanding their right to rape pages, and calling it freedom of speech or justifying it as a joke.

I am over people not understanding that rape is not a joke and I am over being told I don’t have a sense of humor, and women don’t have a sense of humor, when most women I know (and I know a lot) are really fucking funny. We just don’t think that uninvited penises up our anus, or our vagina is a laugh riot.

I am over how long it seems to take anyone to ever respond to rape.

I am over Facebook taking weeks to take down rape pages.

I am over the hundreds of thousands of women in Congo still waiting for the rapes to end and the rapists to be held accountable.

I am over the thousands of women in Bosnia, Burma, Pakistan, South Africa, Guatemala, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Afghanistan, Libya, you name a place, still waiting for justice.

I am over rape happening in broad daylight.

I am over the 207 clinics in Ecuador supported by the government that are capturing, raping, and torturing lesbians to make them straight.

I am over one in three women in the U.S military (Happy Veterans Day!) getting raped by their so-called “comrades.”

I am over the forces that deny women who have been raped the right to have an abortion.

I am over the fact that after four women came forward with allegations that Herman Cain groped them and grabbed them and humiliated them, he is still running for the President of the United States.

And I’m over CNBC debate host Maria Bartiromo getting booed when she asked him about it. She was booed, not Herman Cain.

Which reminds me, I am so over the students at Penn State who protested the justice system instead of the alleged rapist pedophile of at least 8 boys, or his boss Joe Paterno, who did nothing to protect those children after knowing what was happening to them.

I am over rape victims becoming re-raped when they go public.

I am over starving Somalian women being raped at the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, and I am over women getting raped at Occupy Wall Street and being quiet about it because they were protecting a movement which is fighting to end the pillaging and raping of the economy and the earth, as if the rape of their bodies was something separate.

I am over women still being silent about rape, because they are made to believe it’s their fault or they did something to make it happen.

I am over violence against women not being a #1 international priority when one out of three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime — the destruction and muting and undermining of women is the destruction of life itself.

No women, no future, duh.

I am over this rape culture where the privileged with political and physical and economic might, take what and who they want, when they want it, as much as they want, any time they want it.

I am over the endless resurrection of the careers of rapists and sexual exploiters — film directors, world leaders, corporate executives, movie stars, athletes — while the lives of the women they violated are permanently destroyed, often forcing them to live in social and emotional exile.

I am over the passivity of good men. Where the hell are you?

You live with us, make love with us, father us, befriend us, brother us, get nurtured and mothered and eternally supported by us, so why aren’t you standing with us? Why aren’t you driven to the point of madness and action by the rape and humiliation of us?

I am over years and years of being over rape.

And thinking about rape every day of my life since I was 5-years-old.

And getting sick from rape, and depressed from rape, and enraged by rape.

And reading my insanely crowded inbox of rape horror stories every hour of every single day.

I am over being polite about rape. It’s been too long now, we have been too understanding.

We need to OCCUPYRAPE in every school, park, radio, TV station, household, office, factory, refugee camp, military base, back room, night club, alleyway, courtroom, UN office. We need people to truly try and imagine — once and for all — what it feels like to have your body invaded, your mind splintered, your soul shattered. We need to let our rage and our compassion connect us so we can change the paradigm of global rape.

There are approximately one billion women on the planet who have been violated.

ONE BILLION WOMEN.

The time is now. Prepare for the escalation.

Today it begins, moving toward February 14, 2013, when one billion women will rise to end rape.

Because we are over it.”

[TW: street harassment] When my confident, curious, adventurous 12-year-old daughter asked if she could go get ice cream by herself (we live in a city) the first thing that I thought of was how to prepare her to hear:

“Where’s my smile, baby?”
“Wanna go for a ride?”

What if she is surprised? Looks down? Doesn’t give the guy speaking to her the positive response that he seems to think he’s entitled to? What hurtful, explicit things will he then say to put her in her place?

From now on, she’ll have to be on alert. How many times will she have to go out of her way, take longer routes, not go certain places, alter her clothes? Not forget to hold her keys poking through her fingers? Not take certain buses, and pay for a cab instead of taking a metro? Take her lighthearted moods and tuck them away behind earphones and fake phone conversations?

How will it make my daughter feel? Powerless? Angry? Sad? Scared? It’s stressful and depressing to have to acknowledge the underlying threat of violence, especially in a culture that is dedicated to equality for all, a concept predicated on equal and safe access to public space and free speech. Her loss of innocence will have as much to do with the betrayal of this myth of equality and equal access as with understanding her physical vulnerability.

[Trigger Warning: Rape and Violence] Do you think that your 16 year old daughter hasn’t masturbated already? Like, do you really think there’s anything in that scene that this chick hasn’t already tried when the lights go out at night, or in the bathroom, or in the tub, or with the shower head or something like that? I’m telling you, man, I’m not teaching this broad anything new. If I were to create a rating system, I wouldn’t even put murder right at the top of the chief offenses. I would put rape right at the top, and assault against women. Because it’s so insanely overused and insulting how much it’s overused in movies as a plot device, a woman in peril. That, to me, is offensive, yet that shit skates.

Kevin Smith (director) on the ridiculousness of movies about sex receiving NC-17 ratings while extremely violent movies get by with R ratings (via phillip-gallagher)

This, this, this, this. But society has this messed up view that a woman in control of her sexuality is a greater threat than actual violence. That’s a prime example of rape culture RIGHT HERE and I hate it.

(via lostgrrrls)

so i was gonna write this big insightful post littered with big words about some shit. instead, just gonna hit ya’ll up with 5 sentences.

peecharrific:

  1. fat women, on average, make less money than thin people.
  2. a “weight loss, longer life” search yields 172 Million results, while a “weight gain, longer life” search yields 337 Million results; All of which on the first few pages of results are about the benefits of weight loss.
  3. while EDs such as Anorexia and Bulimia are recognized illnesses, Chronic and Binge Overeating, which are also eating disorders, are seen as issues with self control and are blamed solely on the person afflicted with the disease and their “laziness” and “lack of self control”.
  4. The eating and exercise regimens recommended to most fat people would be considered ED’d behavior if adopted by a thin person (yo-yo dieting, starvation diets, exercising more than once a day, etc…).
  5. No matter how thin a woman becomes, she still has opportunities for advancement in an entertainment career - even when she is nearly dead, while we are hard pressed to find a woman who can even be considered remotely overweight regarded as an A List celebrity and not just a supporting cast member.

you can take that “thin people get bullied too” bullshit wherever you like, but please don’t bring it over here. cos there’s no 10,000 note posts about FATspiration floating around tumblr. there’s not 50 million shows on tvteaching thin people new and exciting ways to eat and gain weight. the weight gain industry isn’t the biggest business in america. your checks don’t shrink significantly in direct equation to the number of pounds you lose and they aren’t giving you a 10% raise when you gain a dress size.

i’m not saying the “you need to eat something!”, “put some meat on your bones!”, “you look like you could blow away!”, “are you anorexic?!” comments aren’t bullshit. i’m not saying they aren’t hurtful. i’m saying that there is no way anyone can say thin people (even extremely thin people) have it nearly as hard as people who are considered overweight or obese - and no way in HELL they have it as hard as people who are considered “morbidly obese”.

please don’t bring that bullshit over here.

Reblogging for truthness. Secondly word to the word to the word. The degrading comments towards thin people should never be delegitimized. It is still incredibly harmful, objectifying, and is just ASKING for them to get a fucked up sense of self-worth. The way the system works oppresses people who are heavy in a way that does not remotely give the tiniest bit of a shit “about their health/well being.” I’ve been told to lose weight b/c my loved ones “wanted me to have a good/better/more “healthier” lifestyle” and not be forced to “live that way.” FYI: I was 124 at 5’1” btw. So I lost 10 lbs. Wanna know what they said? “OMFG!! Are u starving urself?!? I just don’t want you to get an ED/exercise addiction waahhhhhh!!!!!” No words….just no words.

The FBI currently defines rape as “the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will”, which, as Vanessa explained back in April, excludes statutory rape, same-sex rape, forced anal or oral sex, rape with an object and victims who are male or transgender or have disabilities, not to mention those who have taken drugs or alcohol and therefore had their ability to consent

The Uniform Crime Report Subcommittee voted unanimously to change the definition of rape, which had not been changed for 80 years (!) and rape will now be defined as, “penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.”

Extreme ‘Personhood’ Amendment

An extreme “personhood amendment” will be on the Mississippi ballot, defining an undeveloped embryo as a “person,” banning abortion (even in case of rape or incest), outlawing birth control and creating legal havoc of all kinds. It’s time to speak out publicly about why such an amendment is just plain wrong.

Wrong doesn’t even begin to describe it.

To put this in perspective, the Equal Rights Amendment (which was first voted on in 1970 and put forth but Susan B. Anthony) still has not been passed.  This would legally make a fetus more human than a woman.

Wow.

This should outrage anyone with common sense, because women who become pregnant as the result of rape or incest will be more likely to do something dangerous to avoid having to carry that fetus to term. More women could potentially DIE as a result of this law when they cannot get legitimate reproductive health care (this includes abortion, which I remind, is LEGAL and rightful for a woman to obtain), and take things into their own hands, or the hands of someone unqualified, when they become desperate.

In the first place, the burden should never be on women to avoid getting raped. The burden should be on men to NOT RAPE. But somehow male children are still brought up and not taught this.

Shame on Mississippi. I feel for progressive-minded people there (there has to be. Many people don’t believe there are progressives in Oklahoma — a state often equated with Mississippi, but there are. You’re reading one).

“Students at Arizona State University have been noticing flyers for an organization called the Men’s Rights Movement Group. And the group’s website claims that ‘Women have NEVER been systematically oppressed.’ We talked to the MRMg’s president to find out what these collegiate men’s rights activists are all about.”

Women have NEVER been systematically oppressed? I’m laughing so hard I almost spat out my icecream.

Even the most misogynistic assholes I know IRL admit that women where at least abused/oppressed in the past even if they think it wasn’t mens fault and it’s all over now. How do people so stupid even exist?

Oh gawd. I wish someone would start some shit like this over at my alma mater. They’d get their rhetorical ass kicked in fantastical new ways. I just love how from top to bottom, men’s rights activists always write about themselves and their ideology as being driven by what is “natural”, “truthful”, “the light”, “enlightenment”, “the good”, etc. etc. The language itself even lends itself to attitudes of divine entitlement to the sexist status quo.

Also, they link to the same site that sent trolls to my article on Lawsonry. You know, the dudes who called me a cunt and a bitch in the name of what is “good, true, and beautiful”! Sexism is overrrrrr.

You do not, whether you like it or not, represent the modern legacy of the suffragists/early women’s rights movement.

If you cared to focus on history rather than whatever Marxist-hued tripe they feed you in…
