Lots of times, when confronted with the lack of women in adventure stories, writers try to say “Well, women weren’t really doing anything interesting during the time my story is set in/based in, so there’s just nothing I can do. My hands are tied. I mean, women weren’t allowed to do anything until 1920 because that’s when American women got the vote. What, do you want me to write a story about making babies and cooking?” Or something to that extent.
As this article shows, women have been badass for a very, very long time. Well worth paying attention to.
